PIAN CANSIGLIO

The Cansiglio is a green corner on the south-eastern side of the province of Belluno, but only 20 kilometers from Vittorio Veneto. It is a sequence of meadows and forests that rise up to the rough and jagged crest of the Carnic Alps, the peaks of the Dolada and the Monte Cavallo. It can be traversed on the Alta Via number 7, an alpine hiking route that needs to be completed in several days in stages. These mountains are covered by hiking trails .

The Cansiglio Ring is the most famous trail in the entire Cansiglio Plateau area, but it is not a particularly crowded and busy place, so it can also be an ideal weekend destination. Don’t miss it.

This walk allows you to admire the beautiful and colorful blossoms, listen to the numerous birds, observe the herds of deer and contemplate the shades of color from yellow to red that tint the Cansiglio Forest in the autumn period.

The environmental heritage here is of enormous value. The Cansiglio is the second largest forest in Italy and with its 5000 hectares of immense woods of age-old beeches and spruces, it hosts a very rich fauna. Hunting is forbidden in Cansiglio. Many animal species can be admired, such as roe deer, red deer and fallow deer.  They can be seen even in broad daylight, grazing together with the cows in the mountain pastures, offering a unique sight. There are also rarer mammals such as the lynx or the brown bear, or those with nocturnal habits like the marten, and the weasel. Even rodents and insectivores such as the mole and shrew are inhabitants of the Cansiglio Woods.

On the plateau, golf lovers will find the ‘Golf Club Cansiglio’. The 18 holes of the Golf Club cover about 80 hectares for a total length of 6077 meters at an altitude of 1,027 meters above sea level. Many restaurants, bars and farmhouses complete your trip to the Cansiglio Woods.

The offer is very varied and everywhere you can eat really well. We suggest booking at the weekends.
