In the heart of Conegliano Valdobbiadene
Azienda Agricola Altheais a gem. It can be found in the heart of the Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene hills. This area has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. The beautiful estate is located near Vittorio Veneto in northern Italy.
The start
The founder, Marika Drusian, grew up in a family with a long winemaking tradition in Valdobbiadene. In 2002, she decided to start her own business, bought the first vines in Confin and replanted them from scratch. This turned into a beautiful 13-hectare estate where Glera grapes are grown with passion and dedication. In 2006, the first vintage of Prosecco Superiore Althea was launched. Today, Marika produces around 130,000 bottles a year.
Ecological and sustainable
The Althea winery pays great attention to the aspect of ecological sustainability. Only organic fertilisers are used in the vineyards, as well as a method of so-called ‘sexual confusion’. This is an innovative ‘green’ pest control method that avoids the use of pesticides.
Work in the vineyard and harvesting is done exclusively by hand.
On average, about 400 hours per hectare per year are spent on sustainable farming. Compared to 90 hours in fully mechanised vineyards on flat land.
From the 2022 harvest, grapes harvested in Marika’s own vineyards will be certified by the National Quality System for Integrated Production (SQNPI).
The Althea wines
Azienda Agricola Althea’s wines are distinguished by their character.
Prosecco Superiore Althea is produced in Brut and Extra Dry versions. The DOCG sparkling wines also include Cartizze, in the Dry version, and the bottle-fermented Sui Lieviti in the Brut Nature version.
The Althea wine label, appropriately used as a company logo, is inspired by our land. The land where the curves of the hills alternate with the sun and the real protagonist, the bunch of grapes. This image inspired the design of the entire Althea DOCG range. It adds a touch of contemporary elegance to a bottle perfect for the most special occasions.
The Althea world
includes two other establishments near the winery: the Agriturismo and the Relais. Every year, many tourists come here to enjoy the tranquillity of this corner of paradise.
Guests also have the opportunity to take a tour with wine tasting at the parent company located in Bigolino di Valdobbiadene, the Azienda Agricola Drusian. This is less than a 40-minute drive from the Althea facilities (about 28 km).
